Health Research Initiatives through NAU’s Office of the Vice President for Research
Northern Arizona University is focusing much energy on enhancing biomedical, translational, and community health research in Northern Arizona and more broadly. The chief framework for supporting this expansion is NAU’s Health Research Initiatives or HRI. Through the Office of the Vice President for Research, HRI offers access to key resources such as assistance in identifying funding opportunities; expert assistance in pre-submission review of proposals or in preparing for a re-submission; resources for statistical and experimental design and for the development of data management plans; and a mini-grant program for generating preliminary data or advancing the planning for external grant submissions. HRI maintains directories of NAU researcher profiles and of relevant university facilities and research services.
NAU’s Translational Health Research Initiative or THRIVE focuses explicitly on collaborative research linking NAU, Northern Arizona Healthcare, T-Gen North, and other health researchers to support innovative population health research to improve health outcomes for northern Arizona’s communities. THRIVE provides a framework for locating collaborators and partnering across sectors (for example, where an academic researcher might be seeking locations for clinical trial research or for community outreach). Recently, Northern Arizona Healthcare and NAU THRIVE have partnered to offer workshops on key topics such as human subjects protection and designing community-engaged research projects. Registration for upcoming workshops is found at /Research/HRI/THRIVE-Workshop-Series-Registration/ , and materials from prior workshops can be found at https://nau.edu/Research/HRI/THRIVE-Workshop-Resources/ .
The Office of the Vice President for Research offers many other resources for researchers, including information on various regulatory compliance issues (https://nau.edu/Research/Safety-Compliance-Ethical-Conduct/) and support for the development of intellectual property and technology transfer activities.
