The Department of Veteran and Transfer Services would like to extend an invitation to the NAU community to participate in a series of events for Veterans Week. We developed these activities and events to honor our veterans and to raise awareness of the veteran experience within the University community. There is a wealth of diversity within veteran community and we would like to share a portion of that with you as we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day on November 11.
From Monday, November 7 through Wednesday, November 9, we will begin collecting items for care packages for our deployed military. This will be taking place throughout the week with donations being accepted at the Veteran Success Center.
Also during this time frame, we will be giving the community a chance to write a small note of appreciation and will be posting them on our “Thank a Veteran” board within the University Union.
On Wednesday, November 9 at 5:30 PM in the Native American Cultural Center, there will be a Native American Veteran panel discussion that focuses on the unique challenges that our Native American veterans face as they transition out of the military back into the community they left.
On Thursday, November 10 beginning at 9:00 AM, there will be a flag on the west side of the University Union as the backdrop to perspectives written by members of our Veteran Student community. We are posting their written insights on their transition out of the military community into the civilian environment.
From 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, November 10, we will have a Veterans Eve Tribute to our Veterans and Active Military that stepped forward and committed themselves to serve. The event will take place at the base of the flag located at the West lawn of the University Union.
