Military education benefits

Steps to Get Started

1. New and Transferring Students: Log in to Veterans On-Line Application (VONAPP) to submit
2. Allow 4-6 weeks for Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Once you receive, send a copy to VAEdBenefits@nau.edu or fax 928-523-1551
3. You are required to certify your classes every term. Certify as soon as you enroll. Please note, DOD TA eligible students are exempt from this process.

Tuition Deferment

Students using Chapter 33 benefits will have their tuition automatically deferred once they submit a class certification request and we have fully processed that request. Students using any other chapter benefits will have the option to self-enroll in the Veterans Tuition Payment Plan. There are no fees associated with this payment plan.

Monthly verification for Chapters 30, 1606 and 1607

Monthly verification is required for these Chapters. It is the student's responsibility to submit enrollment verification to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs at the end of each month.
Visit W.A.V.E to submit enrollment verification or call (877) 823-2378
Students receiving Chapters 30, 1606 or 1607 benefits are eligible for a no-cost tuition payment plan. Please contact our office for more information.

 Yellow Ribbon Program

Northern Arizona University is a proud participant of the Department of Veteran Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, Northern Arizona University and the VA make matching contributions toward education expenses. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows for additional costs that go above what the Post 9/11 Bill® will pay.
If you are an undergraduate student using Chapter 33 with a rating of 100% and in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) or World Wide University (WWU) Program, you may be eligible to apply.
If you meet this criteria simply fill out the Yellow Ribbon Application and email to VAEdBenefits@nau.edu or fax 928-523-1551.
