Student Philanthropy Council
The Student Philanthropy Council at
Northern Arizona University (SPC), is a unique service organization created by students for students. Founded
in 2009 — in coordination with the University Advancement department — we are
now 50 members strong and eager to serve NAU
and the greater Flagstaff community.
we do at NAU…
Our main priority is to educate the student body on the
importance and impact of philanthropy, volunteerism and charitable
contributions. We support NAU’s Student Giving Campaigns through various promotional and fundraising events,
helping to build a strong tradition of Lumberjack pride and student giving here
on campus. All funds raised from the student body during
the campaign count towards our goal and directly help NAU students. This year’s goal is
$17,500, and we currently sit at $11,465!
scholarships make a difference…
The SPC created the NAU Student Philanthropy Scholarship and
the NAU Senior Legacy Scholarship, both of which are solely funded by
the contributions of the NAU student body.
Currently, we oversee, promote and fundraise for both during the school
year. Our main source of funding for these
scholarships comes from our annual telethon by the True Blue Call Crew. All donations made to these scholarships
count towards the NAU Student Giving Campaign goal above.
we serve our community…
Besides the fundraising initiatives of the group, we also
volunteer at numerous Flagstaff community centers and organizations, as well as
here on the NAU campus. Service and
giving back to our community is a major component of the SPC, and all members
fulfill a required number of hours each semester. Building relationships with our community
partners is rewarding in so many ways, and we are always seeking out new
opportunities to make a difference.
SPC is not just all work and no play. We
are also about having a good time! We
get together for fun, group-bonding activities throughout the school year, building
life-long friendships in the process.
