Consortium agreements

More than 800 financial aid students take advantage of dual-enrollment every year, including CEP Nursing students.

A financial aid consortium agreement is a contract between you and Northern Arizona University allowing you to receive NAU financial aid to pay for and successfully earn credit hours at both NAU and another college or university.

It’s simple. After NAU (known as the “parent school”) charges are paid, use your potential financial aid refund to pay tuition at your other institution (known as the “non-parent school”). Students need to pay attention to payment deadlines at their non-parent school to ensure classes are not dropped for non-payment.

NOTE: Save time and do not apply if you’re already enrolled in 12 or more credit hours at NAU; you’re already receiving the full amount of financial aid allowed.

Reminder: At least half-time NAU enrollment (six credit hours) is required for student loans for non-CEP Nursing consortium students.

A Consortium Agreement is a contract. If approved, you’ll have to meet specific terms and conditions. Carefully read all the terms for your applicable program:

  • An NAU CEP Consortium Agreement is required for all CEP Nursing students who receive financial aid at NAU for each semester they are attending both NAU and their community college.
  • An NAU Consortium Agreement is required for students not in the CEP program and are attending both NAU and a secondary institution.

NAU Consortium Agreement - Know your responsibilities

  1. Your agreement will not be approved if you’ve already transferred more than 63 community college credit hours. Exceptions include: 90/30 Interdisciplinary Studies, most BAS degrees, RN to BSN, CEP Nursing, and Dental Hygiene.
  2. All credit hours must transfer to NAU. Duplicate courses will be denied.
  3. Disbursement of federal and state financial aid requires half-time (six credit hours) enrollment at NAU, unless you are a CEP Nursing student.
  4. At least seven NAU credit hours and full-time combined enrollment (a total of at least 12 hours between NAU and your non-parent school) are required for all NAU tuition scholarships to disburse.
  5. NAU tuition scholarships are exclusive to NAU tuition. These awards cannot be applied to your non-parent school’s tuition.
  6. NAU scholarships require successful completion of 30 credit hours per year. Meet your specific scholarship criteria to maintain eligibility.
  7. A new Consortium Agreement is required each semester you wish to participate.
  8. You are responsible for paying tuition and other expenses at your non-parent school. NAU doesn’t pay the non-parent school. Understand your school’s payment deadlines and pay them directly. Your NAU tuition and other allowed charges will be paid with financial aid before a refund is issued.
  9. It is against federal regulations for students to receive financial aid at more than one school at a time. Keep it lawful and receive aid only at NAU.
  10. Consortium agreements do not guarantee an increase in financial aid.
  11. Satisfactory academic progress policy applies. You must meet SAP standards while on a consortium contract.
  12. Contact us if you drop/withdraw from course(s). Your financial aid eligibility may be jeopardized if you do not report this information.
  13. Send your non-parent official transcript to NAU Admissions at the end of each Consortium Agreement semester. Find out how much your other school charges for an official transcript and budget accordingly. Approval of a new contract might be delayed until your transcript is received.
