Parent PLUS and Grad PLUS Loans

The Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) loan is available to parents of dependent undergraduate students to assist in paying for educational costs. To complete the Parent PLUS Loan Application, the student’s parent will need to use the PIN that they created for the FAFSA.  The parent will also have to undergo a credit check.

The application is sent electronically to the Financial Aid office, which will award the student based on the outcome of the application.

Approval

If approved, the parent who completed the loan application must also complete a PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN) prior to funds being disbursed.

PLUS loan funds will pay charges on the student account. A refund for any excess funds will be sent to the parent, or to the student if the parent wishes.

Denial

If denied, the parent can seek an endorser/cosigner (information will be sent to parent), and/or appeal the decision (a form will be sent to parent). The student will then be eligible for an additional unsubsidized loan of the following amounts:
  • Freshmen and sophomores: $4,000
  • Juniors and seniors: $5,000
