SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN

RESIDENT LUMBERJACK SCHOLARS AWARD

The Lumberjack Scholars Award is offered to exceptional freshmen applicants who have been admitted and who:

  • Complete Northern Arizona University's 16 required college preparatory courses by graduation with a "B" or better in each course.
    AND
  • Earn a minimum GPA of 3.50 in the university's 16 required college preparatory courses on an un-weighted 4.00 scale and presents no grade lower than a B in any of these 16 college preparatory courses.

The Resident Lumberjack Scholars Award is a scholarship applied to tuition only, with a value not to exceed $9,000. It is renewable for up to eight semesters (fall and spring only) based on meeting established renewal criteria.

The total value of tuition scholarships that a student receives may not exceed full tuition. To be considered for this award, NAU must receive a copy of the student's final high school transcripts no later than July 1 to verify eligibility.

RESIDENT MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Merit scholarships are available for incoming undergraduate freshmen. Scholarship award amounts are between the amount of $2,500-$6,000. These scholarship awards are only available to undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor's degree. Students will automatically be considered for one of the following tuition scholarships, based on the completed admission application including the SAT and/or ACT test scores:

  • President's
  • Dean's
  • Merit

The total value of tuition scholarships that a student receives may not exceed full tuition.

REGENT'S HIGH HONORS ENDORSEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

This award was established by the Arizona Board of Regents to recognize Arizona high school students for outstanding academic achievement. Complete criteria can be found at the Arizona Department of Education website: www.azed.gov/endorsement-tuition-scholarship.

In order to qualify for this award, a student must:

  • Have graduated from an Arizona high school
  • Have Arizona residency with lawful immigration status
  • Meet academic criteria as determined by the Arizona Department of Education

Northern Arizona University will provide qualified admitted students:

  • A tuition scholarship equal to 25% of resident tuition renewable for up to eight semesters, and based on meeting renewal criteria.

The total value of tuition scholarships that a student receives may not exceed full tuition.

RENEWAL CRITERIA

At a minimum, to renew the scholarship, students must:

  • Have a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5 (Merit and non-resident President's), 2.75 (Dean's), 3.0 (Regent's High Honors Endorsement, President's, and Lumberjack)
  • Be enrolled full-time and complete 30 credit hours each academic year (including winter and summer terms)

A student’s award may be adjusted depending upon academic progress and GPA. Preliminary scholarships awards are made based on data as reported on the application for admission.  Award amounts are subject to change upon review of the final official high school transcript.

Awards are for fall and spring semester only. The entire award amount may not be received in one semester.

NON-RESIDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

THE WESTERN UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE (WUE) PROGRAM

Students who meet the university’s admission criteria and live in one of 14 Western states states can receive a tuition rate of 1.5 times the cost of resident tuition (the AY 2014-2015 WUE rate=$13,680). All students are evaluated for eligibility during the admissions process - a separate application is not needed. Eligible students, once admitted, will automatically receive the WUE tuition rate.

Students participating in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition program are not eligible to receive the President's Scholarship for non-residents.

PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP

Students will automatically be considered for the university President's Scholarship for non-residents. This is a renewable award. Click here to view the university renewal criteria.
