September 17, 2013
On September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed by thirty-nine courageous men who changed the course of history. Today, Constitution Day is a time for us to continue their legacy and develop traditions of citizenship in a new generation of Americans.
Here at home, Northern Arizona University and University College invite you to celebrate Constitution Day by exploring how many NAU first year students engage with community partners to identify issues of concern in the community and effect change. In this process, our students develop both democratic capacities and leadership skills. View this video on how First Year Seminar students, working through our Action Research Teams in our Public Achievement initiative, mentor Killip Elementary School students to identify problems at their school and work to make a difference. Read more about this Public Achievement initiative by First Year Seminar faculty Jacob Dolence.
