Small Business Resources
Many NAU graduates choose to start their own businesses and organizations. The resources listed here can help you learn about this professional path, develop a network of other entrepreneurs, and get off to a strong start.
The Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce has compiled a directory of small business resources, specific to starting a business in Arizona.
The W.A. Franke College of Business offers a variety of opportunities for professional development, interaction
with leaders of large and small businesses, and more.
NACET, Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship and
Technology, is Northern Arizona’s business incubator. Business incubators
nurture the development of entrepreneurial companies, helping them survive and
grow during the start-up period, when they are most vulnerable. These programs
provide their client companies with business support services and resources
tailored to young firms. The most common goals of incubation programs are
creating jobs in a community, enhancing a community’s entrepreneurial climate,
retaining businesses in a community, building or accelerating growth in a local
industry, and diversifying local economies.
The mission of SEDI, Sustainable Economic Development Initiative, is to promote sustainable economic prosperity in northern
Arizona through ecological health, social equity and a resilient economy.
A variety of events and resources are available to entrepreneurs.
Students at NAU can explore the entrepreneurial career path through a variety of opportunities, including a First Year Seminar “In the Business of Change". This seminar utilizes guest speakers from the community, graduate students, and professors
in the college of business to give students a full view of how to successfully
take their ideas, learn about the community, and create successful
businesses. Students from any degree path can participate in the annual start-up weekend. Franke College of Business hosts an entrepreneur in residence, with opportunities throughout the semester for students to learn from an expert.
