Certificate in Early Childhood Education
All teachers serving children birth through kindergarten
must hold an early childhood education certificate which leads to an early
childhood state endorsement—and you can get yours at Northern Arizona
University.
The Early Childhood Certificate (endorsement) can only be
applied to a BSED in Elementary Education degree.
This certificate can be used as a content concentration or
be applied toward a state endorsement. If you are:
- majoring in elementary education, you can count this 22-credit-hour certificate as
your content concentration toward your degree requirements
- an in-service teacher with a degree in
elementary education who wishes to become certified in early childhood preschool through third grade, the course work in this certificate can be used
to gain endorsement through the Arizona Department of Education
Degree requirements
To complete this emphasis, take the following 22 credit
hours:
- ECI 305
- ECI 308
- ECI 312
- ECI 313
- ECI 314
- ECI 315
- ECI 408
- ESE 436
- ECI 311 or ECI 316
Note
You must also student teach in a K-3 setting. Your student
teaching for the Early Childhood Education Certificate meets the student
teaching requirements for the BS Education Elementary degree.
