Free Summer 2016 Tutoring Program
Northern Arizona University America Reads Program is pleased to offer a free summer tutoring program located at the downtown Flagstaff Public Library branch (Youth Services) Beginning Tuesday, May 31st and continuing until July 15th, 2016, (Library closed for holidays on May 30th and July 4th) Registration required by Friday, May 13th.
The purpose of this program is to help children increase their skills and achievement levels in reading and provide homework assistance to participants in the program.
Children enrolled in the program will meet with an experienced tutor each week for assistance with reading, math, or homework-related activities. This program is open to students enrolling in grades K-6 for the 2016-2017 school year.
One-on-one sessions will be 45 minutes long and will be scheduled based on parent and tutor schedules, from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, Tuesday and Thursday.
Monday and Wednesday our tutors will facilitate reading groups based on your child’s grade/reading level. Each group session will be 55 minutes long. Each group will contain 2-5 students.
- Between the hours of 10:00 am to 12:55 pm grades K-3 will work in groups with an assigned tutor.
- Between the hours of 2:00 pm to 4:55 pm grades 4-6 will work in groups with an assigned tutor.
TBD: “Fun Friday” will include events and other activities aimed to incentivize reading. Possibilities include, book club, reading challenges, Spanish reading group and many others. If interested in Fun Friday please indicate on your application. *Fridays can also be used for additional one-on-one tutoring as scheduled with your tutor.
To enroll your child/ren in this program please complete a registration form available online, or pick up an application at the downtown Flagstaff Public Library branch, Youth Services area. Please submit completed applications to firstname.lastname@example.org or drop off applications to the Youth Services area at the library. Please be sure to have applications completed and submitted via email, fax or at the Flagstaff Public Library by Friday May 13, 2015. We will begin student to tutor placements after that date.
