Preparing for NES® and AEPA® Certification Exams
What is APPEL?
APPEL (Assessment Preparation for Professional Educators Lab) is an online course offered by NAU's College of Education as a resource for those who plan on taking the NES® or the AEPA® .
What is the NES® ?
The NES® (National Evaluation Series™) tests have replaced many of the former AEPA® (Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments™) Professional Knowledge and Subject Knowledge tests required for Arizona teacher certification. These tests are ALL computer-based. The Assessment for Professional Knowledge (APK) tests are aligned with the InTASC (Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium) national teaching standards. As of September 2012, the NES® APK tests for Elementary and Secondary are the official tests to fulfill the professional knowledge testing requirement for Arizona teacher certification. Registration information, test design, fees, and test site locations for these tests can be found at nestest.com/arizona. Many subject knowledge tests required for teacher certification have also been replaced with NES® tests. For more information on which tests are required for your certification needs, please contact APPEL or visit the Arizona Department of Education website www.azed.gov/highly-qualified-professionals/aepa-to-nes-transition/
What is the AEPA®?
The AEPA® (Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments™) are still required for teacher certification in Arizona for many areas (including Early Childhood). All of these tests will be moving to computer-based testing during 2013. Registration information, test design, fees, and test site locations for these tests can be found at aepa.nesinc.com. For more information on which tests are required for your certification needs, please contact APPEL or visit the Arizona Department of Education website www.azed.gov/highly-qualified-professionals/aepa-to-nes-transition/
