Tanya Ray Sutton
I am currently a senior at Northern Arizona
University majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have been working with Dr. Catherine Propper for nearly two years focusing on how endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) affect the thyroid system. Specifically, I have been responsible for establishing a limit of sensitivity to T3 in known thyroid responsive genes in multiple tissues using Xenopus laevis as a model. This information will be used in the future to develop a rapid assay capable of testing chemicals suspected to act as or disrupt thyroid function before they are used in the environment. I hope to continue my education as Dr. Propper’s graduate student looking at the effects of T3 on neural crest cell development in Xenopus laevis.
