Master of Science in Climate Science and Solutions

Student gaining hands-on experience in the field

“I have seen the challenges resulting from what I consider to be a severe shortage of individuals who are educated and trained to effectively work in greenhouse gas and climate change fields.”—Ann Bowles, Senior Program Manager, American National Standards Institute, Greenhouse Gases Program

In this interdisciplinary Professional Science Master’s (PSM) degree, you will learn to translate knowledge in this fundamental area into a rewarding career in:

  • climate change science
  • the policy, economics, and technology of climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • greenhouse gas management

You will select electives to tailor your degree toward biological, engineering, social, policy, or economic approaches to climate solutions.

A key feature of our program is a 6-credit summer internship. You will work with your adviser to design or identify an internship position with a private firm, non-governmental organization (NGO), or government agency. The on-site experience and employment contacts you gain from this internship will prepare you for a professional position in this field.

Degree requirements

For this non-thesis master’s program, you will take 36 credits:

  • 15 credit hours for the program core
  • 15 credit hours, in consultation with an adviser of supplemental courses
