Multicultural engineering program

Established in 1994, the Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP) at NAU strives to enhance the academic performance of students pursuing Engineering and Professional Programs and to support underrepresented student populations in these programs.

The MEP serves as a resource for students who want an encouraging community and support in achieving academic, personal, and career goals.

Membership

Students pursuing Engineering majors and Professional Programs (Construction Management and Computer Science) through CEFNS are eligible for MEP membership.  Membership is free and gives you access to benefits and programs that support your success.

To become a member, fill out this online registration form.

MEP members need to re-register each semester to access program benefits.

Benefits of being a member of the MEP

Joining the MEP has its perks.  Maybe you have already registered or maybe you need some convincing, either way, below you will find the free perks and programs designed to support MEP members.

Free tutoring

The MEP employs qualified student tutors for regularly scheduled drop-in tutoring, one-on-one tutoring, and group tutoring in the Engineering Building MEP Lounge (room 107). MEP recently hired new tutors and has expanded the courses we support! View your tutoring options and courses supported by the MEP this semester! Tutoring is not offered during spring break, winter closure, or on University Holidays.

The MEP also partners with the Student Learning Centers (SLC) on campus to provide access to one-on-one tutoring via the Master Schedule, at no cost to MEP members.  If you are interested in Master Schedule tutoring check out the lists of courses supported by the SLCs and contact the MEP administrative assistant to be referred to the program.

Want more tutoring options or help with a course not supported by MEP tutors or SLC Master Scheduling? Here is a list of free academic support available from MEP, the Student Learning Centers, and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Interested in becoming a MEP tutor? Take a look at the job description, complete the application, and give it to one of the MEP tutors, or drop it off in Engineering room 122K.

Space to study, hang out in between classes, find a stapler for your assignment, have a free cup of coffee or tea, get help on math or physics homework, or meet students just like you.  Students who register to become members of the MEP have access to the computers in the lounge and those who register during the first month of every semester get $20 of free printing in the MEP lounge for that semester. .  The MEP lounge hours mirror the building hours: Monday - Thursday 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Saturday & Sunday via student ID.

Monthly newsletter

Every month, MEP members receive an email containing the MEP Voices newsletter full of important dates, study tips, scholarships, internship information, pertinent news or events, and maybe a surprise or two.  The newsletter is the voice of the program!  If you'd like to contribute to the newsletter (whether a personal story, exciting research, a group accomplishment, or even an engineering-related comic) contact the MEP Coordinator.
