Students Spend Christmas Holiday On Humanitarian Mission
For some, the holiday break means recovering from finals,
skiing, or spending time with loved ones. For others, it’s an opportunity to
serve.
On December 16, 12
university students and faculty from various disciplines journeyed to India for
two weeks. Their mission: to use their expertise to improve the lives of the
Tibetan refugees in India’s Mainpat settlement, which consists of a monastery
and seven camps of approximately 200 people each?
Resources can be scarce
in the Tibetan refugee camps, and Mainpat is no exception. In a unique
interdisciplinary venture, the NAU group’s members completed an engineering
project, provided dental care, and studied the community to determine its needs
and how to provide sustainability.

Contractor Night & Senior Seminar
If you’re a professional in a construction or engineering
company, Contractor Night can connect you with potential employees and provide
a way for you to share your expertise with our students.
Contractor night is actually two separate events: Contractor Night and Senior Seminar.
Thursdays 5:15 - 7:00 pm (click to expand for details)Contactor Night (5:15-6:15 p.m.) - click to expand
We invite all of our students to attend a professional presentation about your company. Typically, contractors talk about:
- their company culture and values
- the work that they specialize in
- the employment and internship opportunities that are available to students
Senior Seminar (6:30-7 p.m.)
After the conclusion of Contractor Night, your firm will make a more focused presentation to our Senior Construction Management Capstone Class.
Generally, we will provide you with a topic that is synchronized with the things we are talking about in class; past subjects include:
- using BIM to improve field coordination
- tricks and techniques for estimating concrete construction
- using the project schedule to predict time and cost
The presentations are short—20 minutes or so—and are followed by a question and answer session with the students.
Date and time
Date: Thursday evenings
Time: 5:30-7 p.m.
You may take resumes from interested students during the event and schedule interviews at our facility for Friday morning.
Location
Building 69, room 101
Cost
Presenting contractors are required to provide food and drinks for our students. Our student organization handles all of the food and beverage arrangements and provides your firm with an invoice when you arrive.
