Dr. Shafer joined the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in 2013 after receiving his Ph.D. from Cornell. Michael is a Core Research Member for ISES focusing with research focused on renewable energy, wind turbine control, advanced actuation technologies, small scale energy harvesting for wireless sensor networks, dynamics, control systems and bio-inspired engineering systems. This research has many applications for avian wildlife tracking and bio-logging. Michael spends his spare time hiking, backpacking, and practicing archery.
