NAU Symphony and Chamber Orchestra Concert: Kaleidoscope

Northern Arizona University welcomes Dr. Daniel O'Bryant as the new Director of Orchestras, beginning fall 2013.

The Orchestras will present a collection of brilliantly colorful works by Bizet, Corelli, and Rimsky-Korsakov. The concert will conclude with Rainbow Body, a powerful tone poem by the American composer Christopher Theofanidis.


NAU Symphony and Chamber Orchestra Concert: Dvorak 8

The NAU Orchestras perform Dvorak's Symphony No. 8 in G major. Known as his "happy" symphony, this piece borrows heavily from Dvorak's favorite music, Bohemian folk melodies. It is rich, romantic, and cheerful, all at the same time. Although performed less frequently than his 9th Symphony, the 8th is considered by many to be his greatest work.


NAU Symphony and Chamber Orchestra Concert: Celebrations

The NAU Orchestras celebrate student achievement in this highly virtuosic program, featuring the 2014 Concerto Competition Winners (TBD). The orchestras will also perform Bartok's Music for Strings Percussion and Celesta, Saint-Saens' Danse Bacchanale, and Respighi's Pines of Rome.


NAU Chamber Orchestra and Opera Theatre: L'incoronazione di Poppea

The NAU Chamber Orchestra and Opera Theatre present Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, a story of love and betrayal, involving the infamous Roman Emperor Nero and his social-climbing mistress Poppea. This baroque era masterpiece is rapidly becoming one of the most popular operas of our day.


NAU Chamber Orchestra Concert: Dvorak Serenade for Strings

Kevin Kozacek will lead the NAU Chamber Orchestra in a lecture-performance of Dvorak's Serenade for Strings. This off-campus event is free and open to the public.


NAU Symphony Orchestra and Choirs: A German Requiem, Brahms

The NAU Symphony Orchestra and Shrine of the Ages Choir join forces with the Master Chorale of Flagstaff to perform Brahms' German Requiem. This monumental piece plunges the depths of life, death, and redemption, with a degree of power and profundity that only Brahms can achieve.
