Before coming to NAU, Stephen Brown taught at the
University of Connecticut (Assistant Professor, 2000-2001) and the Oberlin
Conservatory (Assistant Professor 2001-2007; promoted to Associate Professor
with tenure 2007).
Professor Brown has done research in post-tonal
theory and analysis, transformational theory, and the music of Shostakovich.
He has given papers at numerous venues, including
the New Conference of Music Theorists, the West Coast Conference of Music
Theory and Analysis, Music Theory Midwest, the Society for Music Theory, and
the International Musicological Society. His articles appear in Music Theory
Spectrum, Music Analysis,Intégral, and Music Theory Online.
