Dr. Daniel O’Bryant is the Director of Orchestras at Northern Arizona University. Prior to this, he served as Orchestra Director and String bass Professor at St. Cloud State University, Music Director of the St. Cloud State Youth Orchestra, Music Director of the Heartland Symphony, Resident Conductor of the St. Cloud Symphony, Assistant Conductor of the Salt Lake Opera Company, Founding Director of the Utah County Chamber Players, Assistant Conductor of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony, and Orchestra Director at Jackson Intermediate in Houston, Texas. He has also conducted the Omaha Symphony, the Aspen Music Festival's American Academy of Conductor's Orchestra, the Bakersfield Symphony, the Conductor's Institute of South Carolina Orchestra, the St. John’s University Orchestra, the Wartburg College Orchestra, the Concordia College Orchestra, the Appalachian State University Orchestra, the Eastman School of Music Philharmonia, the Cincinnati Conservatory Philharmonia, the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, the Lamont Symphony at Denver University, the Arizona State University's Lyric Opera Theatre, the Brigham Young University’s Opera Theatre and Early Music ensembles, and many high school ensembles. His conducting teachers include Daniel Lewis, Timothy Russell, William Reber, Neil Varon, Gustav Meier, David Zinman, David Effron, and Mark Gibson.

Dr. O'Bryant is also known as a string specialist and bass performer. He is in constant demand as a guest clinician for regional and state orchestras, and has appeared as a guest lecturer at numerous string camps and conferences. He served as principal bassist with the St. Cloud Symphony, assistant principal with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and section bassist with Music of the Baroque, the Elgin Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, Ballet West, and the Salt Lake Opera Company. He was awarded a full fellowship to study bass at the Aspen Music Festival, and has been a featured soloist with prominent orchestras in the United States and Europe. He has collaborated in recordings and performances with such artists as Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, David Zinman, Augusta Read Thomas, Evelyn Glennie, the Kings Singers, Richard Stoltzman, and Nicholas McGegan. O’Bryant has taught bass for many years, as the faculty instructor at Utah Valley University and St. Cloud State University. His bass teachers include Walter Birkedahl of Brigham Young University and Bruce Bransby of Indiana University.
