Pianist Janice ChenJu Chiang joined Northern Arizona University in 2007 where she serves as Lecturer of Collaborative Piano. She has performed extensively as a soloist, a collaborative pianist and a chamber musician throughout the United States including Arkansas, Florida, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Texas and Arizona as well as Seoul, Korea and her native country Taiwan. Dr. Chiang has appeared in many festivals and conferences including Tucson Vocal Art Festival, Conference of North American Saxophone Alliance, International Alliance for Women in Music and the 2012 CMS/NACWPI/ATMI/PKL National Conferences. Dr. Chiang also has been the official accompanist for the Arizona Chapter of NATS and the Four-Corner Choral Workshop. As a soloist, in addition to frequently giving recitals, she was a semi-finalist at the Green Valley Piano competition in Arizona. As a collaborative pianist, she has concertized with many esteemed artists including violinist Fritz Gearhart, clarinetist Keith Lemmons, soprano Faye Robinson and the Concertmaster of Phoenix Symphony Orchestra Steven Moeckel. As a chamber musician, Dr. Chiang enjoys performing in various settings. Currently a member of Kokopelli ensemble, where she performs with NAU woodwinds faculty members, she also recently produced an all-Fauré concert with NAU faculty members featuring works from solo to piano quintet.

As an educator, Dr. Chiang has more than twenty years of teaching experience. She has taught applied piano and class piano at the University of Arizona before she joined NAU. She also has taught piano and theory at several performing art high schools in Taiwan prior to arriving in the United States. As a clinician, Dr. Chiang has given master classes at several universities including the University of Central Arkansas and the University of South Florida. She was the first clinician invited to Taiwan in giving collaborative duo master classes with clarinetist Dr. Jeremy Reynolds and violist Dr. Jacquelyn Schwandt at some of most prestigious universities including Soochow University, Tai-Nan University of Arts and National Taiwan University of Arts in 2011. She has also adjudicated for many competitions, including the Tucson MTNA competition, Flagstaff Piano Festival, Quick-Bowman Piano Competition and Yavapai Symphony Guild’s Young Artist Competition. Her report at the 2012 Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum was just published on the MTNA e-journal November 2012 issue.

Dr. Chiang holds performance degrees from the University of Arizona (D.M.A.), Fu-Jen Catholic University (M.M.), and Soochow University (B.A.). Her major teachers include Dr. Paula Fan, Dr. Shu-Wen Sun, Dr. Michael Dellinger, Bobby Wang, Patricia Kavanagh and FenFen Chen.
