Jazz Madrigal Festival

The annual Northern Arizona University Vocal Jazz Madrigal Festival, one of the largest festivals of its kind in the Southwestern United States, features special guest clinicians and over 140 high school ensembles from Arizona and nearby states. The two-day festival includes a host concert in which choirs from NAU and professional groups of national and international stature appear.

This event will be held on the NAU campus in Flagstaff on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11, 2012. Ensembles of all ability levels are invited to participate.

We are pleased to announce the following Madrigal clinicians: Ms. Sigrid Johnson, St. Olaf College; Dr. Kevin Fenton, Florida State University; Dr. Magen Solomon, Artistic Director of the San Francisco Choral Artists and the Stockton Chorale.  Vocal Jazz clinicians will be Kim Nazarian and Darmon Meader of New York Voices.

We are excited to announce that New York Voices will be the guest ensemble for this year’s festival! Please visit their website for more information. Tickets for the evening concert featuring New York Voices and the NAU Shrine of the Ages Choir will go on sale Monday, October 24, 2011 at the NAU Central Ticket Office.

COST - $190.00 for each jazz and/or madrigal ensemble. Initially, we will accept only ONE ensemble per director per school. Second ensembles will be accepted only after all applicants have been given the opportunity to schedule their first ensemble. Available slots will be assigned to second ensembles after the October 24-October 28 registration time period. Entry fee is due by Friday, December 9th. If the entry fee is not received by December 9, 2011, reserved times will be given to the first school on the waiting list and your school will be moved to the bottom of the waiting list. Please note that this will be strictly enforced due to the high demand for festival slots.
