Catie Hunter recently graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2012 with an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a minor in communications. Catie is a native to Tempe, Arizona, where she first heard about the Curry Summer Music Camp as a sophomore at Corona del Sol High School from her inspiring choir director, Greg Hebert, who was a past camper and counselor. After two years as a camper, she was hooked! She discovered her love of performing and being on the stage during her time at NAU Curry Summer Music Camp. She became a Senior Award Winner in 2008, was selected as Counselor from 2010-2012, and will now serve in the new role of Assistant Head Counselor. In high school, Catie was extremely dedicated to her high school choir program, serving as President for four years. In college at NAU, she was a member of the Women's Ensemble choir under the direction of Dr. Ryan Holder. In addition, she was appointed to the Choir Council within the NAU College of Music.
Catie was chosen as one sixteen students from within the College of Education to intern at Knoles Elementary School as part of the year long Flagstaff Partnership Teacher Training Program. Proving herself to be a well-rounded individual, Catie became a certified Group Exercise Instructor in 2009. Using her knowledge of music, rhythm, and cueing, she teachis classes from Zumba to cardio kickboxing. Now, Catie is back in the Tempe area where she just finished student teaching at the Kyrene School District and is planning to substitute teach for the rest of the 2012-2013 school year. In Fall 2013, Catie expects to have her own classroom as well as begin work on her Master's degree in Classroom and Instruction, continuing her education at Northern Arizona University.
