Inquiry in Teaching & Learning
LEARNERS AND LEARNING
Teaching begins with understanding the learner; learning history and
social studies begins with inquiry, the mindset through which researchers in
history and the social studies disciplines approach their work, and asking good
questions and using good evidence to answer them.

The scholarship of teaching and learning addresses the ways in which learners grow, develop, and vary cognitively, linguistically, socially, emotionally, and physically, and the ways in which individual, cultural, and environmental differences impact the learning process.
Standards provide guidelines for K-12 educators at the state and national level in instructing learners in core reading, writing, thinking, and technological skills, and in the basic themes and categories in the different history and social studies disciplines.
