Alex Weirich Memorial Scholarship
In 2000, the Rhetoric and Teaching of Writing (RTW) area created a memorial scholarship for one of our former graduate students, Alex
Weirich.
Alex was a superb argumentative writer and thinker who
promised to contribute a great deal to the scholarship of rhetoric and
composition studies.
Alex’s research focused on the history of rhetoric,
technology studies, and gender identity. Alex received a Syracuse University
fellowship to the composition and cultural rhetoric doctoral program. He was
attending this program when he died.
The Alex Weirich Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduate
students in the Rhetoric and Teaching of Writing (RTW) English MA program. Applicants should
demonstrate outstanding ability and interest in one or more of Alex’s areas of
expertise: history of rhetoric, technology, and/or gender identity.
